      Yay Lacey and Matt! Florida Tribal Dance in the house! We will not rest until we've brainwashed every central Florida dancer into coming to TribalCon! Big thanks to Awalim and Ziah for keeping this awesome party going! In these 'troubled economic times' TC remains my yearly treat to myself for pinching pennies the rest of the time! Can't wait!

    I'm gonna be there and could NOT be more excited! I think Ariellah and Asharah are just YUM. Anyway--perhaps this is a good place to bring this up. I purchased the whole weekend and want to take as many classes as I can but I am very hesitant to take Asharah's zills class. I can't play them for anything and I sure as heck can't do it and move. I've been learning for 14 months now and my teacher has not taught zills. Once or twice but it was a complete disaster in my opinion. I don't want to make a fool of myself. I have been doing some zills practice on youtube but I just stink so I have been thinking of just skipping Asharah's class. I have this vision every lady in there is gonna be pro and like I said--I stink. ANy thoughts?

      I set up TribalCon so that you can use it for a long term investment into your dance education. This year you may suck at the zill class but it will give you a place to start. Hopefully you will get some zill instruction during the year but if that doesn't happen then next year when you take a zill class at TribalCon it won't be quite as scary...a few things will be familiar, the teacher may say something that didn't click the year before and you will go away being a bit more ahead of the game....and then so on and so on for each TribalCon. There are always "themes" at TribalCon that carry through year after year like ATS, Fusion, Technique Training, Folk dance (a bunch will happen at the hafla this year!), so that each year you get better at each thing and become a more well rounded dancer.

      I generally go into a class or workshop situation expecting to suck at something, cause if there's no suckage, there won't be anything to learn at all.
      I expect to be bad at things I don't know anything about, and that's okay since that's the way it's supposed to be and that's what I'm class for. You can only get better from there.

      Don't worry, you won't be alone. I don't know a thing about zills, not even a DVD or YouTube instruction either! That's why when I saw it on the listing for classes, I jumped on it.

        IT's different with some of the other classes because I can learn silently.
        I feel better knowing that I am not the only student who cannot play. It seems most learn zills right from the beginning and I was told that EVERY good bellydancer can play the zills. Soooooooooo--what did that make me ya know?? Thank you for the encouragement and I will be in Asharah's zills bringing da noise! haha. Looking foward to meeting you.

          Well, here's the thing with me and zills. I've only recently come to point where I can like the sound of them. I've never been super crazy about zills, but now I have enough interest to want to learn about them. So I think that is good, that I am interested in something new. :)

          'Every good bellydancer can play the zills' may or may not be true. I fully intend to be become a 'good' dancer at the very least, and would challenge anyone to tell me that I was not simply because I didn't enjoy pairs of cymbals on the ends of my fingers. If a person wants to expand their repertoire and master the zills, I think that's great. But, I don't think you should let anyone diminish you and your dancing by implying you can't be good without it. I have noticed many of the amazing dancers I have seen perform, do so, minus zills altogether. So they may know how to use them just fine, but they don't use them. I just think it's all up to the individuals! :) And their preferred styles.

          Hey, us no-zillers can sit together in Asharah's class, so she will know where in the room to aim her energy!

      Lumani and Friends will be there.Come take all the wonderful classes and dancing to all the incredible live musicians.Its my favorite at Fridays hafla. This year there is the After party in the hotel. At the end of the evening you can crawl and take the elevator to your sleeping spot.

    I promised myself that I wouldn't get excited about TribalCon until February and it is now February so FUCKING WOOT!

    I'll be bringing Shovey with me for all my tribe buddies to sign as well as a copy of Tribal Signs for show and tell purposes. *High Fives Maji* Vendors be prepared, I am desirous of the shopping.

    Like Lisa said ... the Lumani will be there with some new members this year. I've been there since the first one and vending this year will be more fun than ever with some of my new stuff. I can't wait to see everybody again!!!!!!
